Courtesy Photo The Augusta Youth Chorale is a mixed choir of 30 voices, representing 10 different churches and 14 different schools in the Augusta area. They are currently in their third year, having formed in 2009, and are directed by Dr. Mark Nabholz, who has a Doctorate in Musical Arts. They have performed in the Choir Festival at First Baptist Church of Augusta, along with several other community choirs, and they perform in the local area. The AYC holds auditions throughout July and August, and kicks off every season with a choir retreat, where the choir comes together to get to know each other, welcome newcomers, and practice the music for the upcoming season.
As a finale to each season, the AYC goes on a small tour, performing in different locations over the course of a weekend. Last year they toured in Orlando, Fla, singing at churches and retirement homes. Recently, they have been invited to be the featured choir, and sing at the National Shrine at the Youth Cue National Capital Choir Festival in Washington, D.C.
A performance by the Military Council of Catholic Women’s group is scheduled 7 p.m. Feb. 2 on Fort Gordon at Bicentennial Chapel on Brainard Ave.
