Community Outreach:
I encourage all members of the Installation Management Community to enjoy the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend with appropriate planning and awareness for the unexpected.
All recreation activities whether they be boating, swimming, motorcycle riding, grilling, camping or hiking pose risks. Do your part to avoid falling victim to the hazards. The brochure at http://www. imcom.army.mil/hq/officecom/staff/safety/ has valuable information.
Privately owned weapon accidents are increasing. Look at this interactive site for new safety techniques (https://safety.army.mil/Firearm-Safety).
Never get behind the wheel of a vehicle or a boat after drinking nor ride with someone who has been drinking. Follow the rules of the road. If you ride motorcycles, wear personal protective equipment. Make everyone use seat belts every time. Use TRiPS (https://crc.army.mil) and apply Composite Risk Management to your planning.
With the start of a new school year, more children are on the streets. Less day light means poorer visibility. Stay alert and watch for children standing along the street, exiting from a bus, walking or riding a bike.
Sarah and I hope you enjoy your holiday without taking unnecessary risks. You are the last line of defense against a mishap at work, at home, and at play. Look out for other members of our Army team -- Soldiers, Civilians, and their Families. Together, we can save lives!
Thanks for all you do. Take care. D6
Support and Defend!
