Home Selling and Leasing Seminar

Need to know how to sell or lease your home? Come join us at our free Home Selling and Leasing Seminar scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. July 20 in Room 188, Darling Hall. Business, Innovation and Technology Expo

The University of South Carolina Aiken Convocation Center, located at 375 Robert Bell Parkway, Aiken, S.C., is hosting a Business, Innovation and Technology Expo, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 17. Admission is free; there will be activities for everyone in the family to participate in. Some of the activities include: robotics, orbital welders, magic shows, South Carolina National Guard Weapons of Mass Destruction-Civil Support Team and natural disaster demo, Fort Gordon Humvee demo with satellite capabilities, Special Weapons and Tactics Team demo with night vision goggles, police cars with state of the art computer capabilities, science demo’s and much more. Census nonresponse follow-up

Census workers have begun to enumerate within Fort Gordon's Government Housing areas in order to conduct personal interviews with residents who did not return a census questionnaire on time or who never returned the form. Housing residents can expect to see census workers in orange vests, carrying a census bag and wearing a census badge with their names and ID number. Anyone concerned or needing to validate the census worker may contact the local census office 262-4310 and provide the name and badge

number for confirmation.

FEW

The Garden City Chapter of the Federally Employed Women’s organization will not meet July 13 due to the 2010 National Training Program which is being hosted July 12-16 in New Orleans. The next scheduled meeting is 11:30 a.m. Aug. 9 at the Gordon Club. Mary Hammond, the chapter’s president, will present information about the training conducted at the NTP. FMWR Outdoor Events

The Fort Gordon Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation is hosting several outdoor recreation events in July, August and September. One of the events is white water rafting trip, July 9-10 to Middle Ocoee River in Ocoee, Tenn. Cost is $85 per person, which includes all transportation, one night lodging, breakfast and lunch the day of rafting. Minimum age to participate is 12 years old. Space is limited; reservations close today. Windsurfing and paddle clinic is scheduled Aug. 14. Cost is $50 per person; registration closes Aug. 9. White water rafting, Aug. 21-22, $85 per person; event is for 12 years older and old, registration closes Aug. 13. Deep sea fishing, Sept. 5-6, $175 per person, registration closes July 30. Windsurfing class, Sept. 12, $100 per person, registration closes Sept. 6. A minimum participation is required for the scheduled trips to take place. “Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure,” a 1899 play written by William Gillette and Arthur Conan Doyle and adapted by Steven Dietz, is being presented July 16, 17, 23, 24, 29, 30 and 31 at the Fort Gordon Dinner Theatre. Dinner is served at 7 p.m.; show begins at 8 p.m. In this play Sherlock Holmes solves a mystery involving a kidnapped damsel. There are lots of twists and turns in the plot. Dinner and play cost is $38 for civilians; seniors, age 65 and older; retirees, Department of the Army civilians, and active duty military in the rank of E-7 and above pay $36. Active duty military in the rank of E-6 and below pay $30. Cost to attend only the show is $25 for anyone. For more information or to make a reservation, call 793-8552.

Preventive Training

Army Regulation 600-85 dated Dec. 2, 2009, paragraph 2-19, states Department of Army civilian employees will receive two hours prevention training annually in accordance with U. S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Regulation 350-70. Make up training will be held at Alexander Hall the dates listed below. Any employee that has not yet attended the yearly substance abuse training other than contractors is required to attend this mandated training. Civilians or supervisors can attend any of the training listed below:

July 29 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. July 30 9 to 11 a.m. Walk to Baghdad Finale

The Walk to Baghdad Finale is 7:30 a.m. July 27 at Barton Field. Redeployed Soldiers of the 35th Signal Brigade will walk with their families. Everyone is invited to participate. For more information, contact Kimberly McKee at 840-1038 or Dona Ramos at 831-3211.

Summer Camp

Fort Gordon’s U.S. Army Child, Youth and School Services are offering School Age Services Summer Camp through Aug. 6. Children must be enrolled in first grade. Weekly fee is based on total household income. Children of active duty service members, retirees, Department of Defense civilians and contractors are welcome. For more information, call 791-4722.

Cleaning service

Fort Gordon’s custodial contractor no longer provides janitorial services to post effective June 10. This does not affect the hospital or Child and Youth School Service facilities. The Directorate of Public Works and Directorate of Contracting have initiated action to get a replacement contract in place as soon as possible. In the interim, organizations are responsible for maintaining their own areas. Managers and employees are asked to volunteer to assist in cleaning until janitorial services are restored. The American Federation of Government Employees, Local 2017, has been notified. Questions or further clarification should be directed to Kelly Elder, 791-3778 or Sandra Taylor, 791-6038.

Civilian Health Promotion Program

The Civilian Health Promotion Program is a CPOC governed program which has existed at Fort Gordon for the past 12 years. Army Regulation 600-63 allows Department of Defense civilians three hours of administrative leave per week to give them the opportunity to participate in a health and fitness program. This nine week structured health education and fitness activi

-ties program is offered to DoD civilians three times a year. The goal of this program is to "jump start civilians into living a healthier lifestyle". In order to participate DoD civilians must obtain written permission and agreement from their supervisor and approval from their health care provider. Program participants meet from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Fitness activities are held at the Fort Gordon Fitness Center, Building 29607, on Barnes Avenue and education classes are held at the Health and Wellness Center, Building 29605.The next CHPP session starts Sept. 14. Enrollment is limited to the first 25 individuals who complete the enrollment process. For more information and/or to sign up for the program contact the Health and Wellness Center at 787-6756. EFMP Family Find Campaign

In accordance with Army Regulation 608-75, enrollment in the Exceptional Family Member Program must be updated every three years by the service members or family member. A DD Form 2792, Exceptional Family Member Medical Summary, must be completed by your primary care provider. The forms can be downloaded on Google or EFMP forms. Once the form has been completed contact the Family Medical Clinic to update your enrollment. For more
