Balfour Beatty Communities

The Stroller Derby Walking Club’s week walk begins at 10 a.m. April 16 at the parking lot of Brainard Avenue near the neighbor entrance of McNair Terrace. Memory Makers Scrapbooking Club meets 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 19 in the “Community Corner”. RSVP for the scrapbooking event by April 16. Veterans Job Fair

The Georgia Department of Labor, Fort Gordon’s Army Career and Alumni program, Augusta Career Center, Association of the United States Army, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign War will host a job fair 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. May 4 at the Fort Gordon Army Reserve Center, Bldg. 14401, located at the corner of Lane Avenue and 15th Street. Fifty local, state, and national employers will be there. Job seekers should bring copies of their resume and dress for success. The job fair is open to the public. Brown Bag Lunch series

The Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association Augusta-Fort Gordon Chapter is hosting its next Brown Bag Lunch program 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 5 at Signal Tower’s Organizational Conference Room, located on the first floor, inside the cafeteria. The topic of discussion is Cognitive Radios by Ultra Electronics Tactical Communications Systems. Participants have the option of bringing their lunch or purchasing lunch from Chef Red’s in the cafeteria. Admission is free. Basic Bank Course

Are you ready for the overdraft/credit card rules? Have you heard about the new overdraft rules for your Automated Teller Machines and debit cards? Did you know that a debit card transaction may not appear for several days after you make your purchase? Has anyone told you that too many overdrafts may result in getting your name on the “check system” list, which may keep you from opening an account at any bank or credit union? Did you know you are responsible for any “fake” checks deposited in your account?

Guest speaker is from the Wachovia Bank on post. All classes meet 4 p.m. every third Wednesday starting April 21 in Darling Hall, Bldg. 33720, Room 229A. For more information or to register for the class call 791-1331.

Sergeant Audie Murphy Club

The Fort Gordon Sergeant Audie Murphy Club is hosting its third quarter SAMC Board at 8:30 a.m. April 27 in the General Myer Conference Room, located on the 10th Floor in Signal Towers. The hands-on evaluation takes place 6 a.m. April 23 with the physical training test at the 1/3 mile track, 9 a.m. is the Drill and Ceremony evaluation, physical training, written and land navigation evaluations. National Day of Prayer Ceremony

The Fort Gordon National Day of Prayer Ceremony is scheduled at 9 a.m. May 6 at the flag pole outside of Signal Towers. In case of inclement weather the 30 minute ceremony will be moved to Alexander Hall. For more information call the Installation Chaplain’s Office at 791-5653.

Youth Challenge Academy Family Day

The Fort Gordon Youth Challenge Academy is celebrating Family Day 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 24 at the YCA campus, Bldg. 36200, located in the Brems Barracks area, adjacent to the Post Exchange complex. For more information call 791-5950.

Ice Cream Social

The Fort Gordon Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation and the U.S. Army Child, Youth and School Services is hosting an ice cream social 4:30 p.m. April 16 at CYSS, Bldg. 45410, on 46th Street for youth in grades 1st through 5th grade. The youngsters must be CYSS eligible and registered in the School Age Service program. For more information call 791-7575.

Flag Football Skill Development

The Fort Gordon U.S. Army Child, Youth and School Services is sponsoring a flag football skill development training session 4 - 5:30 p.m. April 26 and 28 at CYSS, Bldg. 45410, on 46th Street for CYSS eligible youth who are currently in the 4th and 5th grade. An actual game will be held at 4:30 p.m. April 30 for students who attended the skill development session. Parents are invited to the game. For more information call 791-7575.

Youth photo competition

The East Central Georgia Regional Library is sponsoring the Augusta Photo Festival Youth Competition for youth in grades 6th through 12th who are attending classes in Richmond, Burke, Columbia, Lincoln or Warren counties. Spring Fest 2010

The Fort Gordon Spring Fest 2010 is scheduled April 29 - May 2 on Barton Field. There will be a carnival, various bands will perform, crafts, rides, food, and much more. Ladies Roller Derby

The Augusta Soul City Sirens Roller Derby team takes on Savannah Derby Devils April 18 at the Red Wing Rollerway on 3065 Washington Road in Augusta. Cost is $10 online for adults; $12 at the door. Marine Mud Challenge 2010

The Fort Gordon Marine Mud Challenge 2010 is slated for May 15 in the field located at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and 3rd Avenue bypass (behind the PXtra). The Children’s Challenge has three start times: 8, 8:15 and 8:30 a.m. Cost is $5 per child. Youngsters 12 years old and younger may enter the children’s mud challenge. Parents may escort children through the 1-mile off-road course. Individuals age 13 years old and older must compete in the Adult Mud Challenge which starts at 9 a.m. at the same location. Registration is $100 per 4-person team through May 1. Late registration, after May 1, is $120 per [4-person] team. There are four team categories: male, female, coed and paramilitary [police, firefighters, and emergency medical teams]. All participants in the Adult Mud Challenge will receive participation medals; awards will be given to the top three finishers in each category.
