Art and music take weekend stage

Art and music events are on the schedule around the Augusta area this weekend. On Saturday, the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art will once again have its annual Artists’ Market and Festival. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, the festival portion of the fourth annual event will feature hands-on activities for children and artists’ demonstrations as well as the artists’ marketplace featuring the works of many local artists. The artists’ market portion of the event will be available through March 26 during the institute’s regular business hours. The festival is free. For more information, call (706) 722-5495.

On Saturday night, the group Air Supply will join Symphony Orchestra Augusta for Pops! At the Bell at 7:30 p.m. It’s been more than 20 years since they hit the charts with their last single, Making Love Out of Nothing at All, but the group still makes more than 120 concert dates a year. Regular tickets range from $20-$45; however, full-time students and active duty military may purchase tickets for $7 on the night of the concert at the box office. In Aiken, the magic of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella will be staged at the URS Center for the Performing Arts, forrmerly the Washington Center for the Performing Arts, at 8 p.m. Friday, March 19 and 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The show is a benefit for kidney and dialysis patients who live in the Aiken County area. Tickets are $22 for the matinees and $24 for the evening shows.
