An Irish celebration will be held in downtown Augusta beginning at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Richmond County pupils are out of school on St. Patrick’s Day because of a teacher development day.

There will be children’s events, vendors and entertainment.

The Irish music turns to jazz on Thursday as the Colors of Jazz music series in Columbia County begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Augusta Jewish Community Center.

Karen Gordon and Garden City Jazz will open the concert series.

“I’m so excited about this,” said Gordon. “I can’t really think about anything else.”

There will be three concerts in the series; the second will feature Rob Foster and Pulsar on April 22 and Gerry Eisenberg on May 13.

Gordon said her concert will focus on “old school” jazz. Eisenberg’s is likely to feature a lot of George Gershwin while Foster may throw in some of his own compositions.

Tickets are $10 for single concerts or $25 for the entire series.
