Always training
Fort Gordon firefighters conducted quarterly confined space training Feb. 26 in front of Fire Station 1, Bldg. 32420, on Rice Road. The firefighters’ goal is to set up the tripod vertical anchoring system, shown in the photo, within 10 minutes or less once they arrive on an emergency scene, according to Capt. Lamar Price, a firefighter/ instructor at the post fire department. The firefighters are lowering firefighter Jeff Phillips into a manhole where firefighter Anthony Dobbins is portraying a contractor who has sustained a heart attack. Contractors often go down into manholes on post to work on electrical lines. “Our number one priority is to get the person out [of the confined space] as quickly as possible,” said Price.
