Healthy Habits classes
The U.S. Army Child, Youth and School Services at Fort Gordon is sponsoring “Healthy Habits” classes from 5 to 5:45 p.m. every third Thursday of the Month at the Youth Center, Building 45410, on 46th Street. Children must be registered with the post’s Child, Youth and School Services to participate. Some of the topics to be discussed will be healthy eating, weight management, exercise, correct eating portions, and proper hand washing.

Survivor’s Support Group
The Fort Gordon Survivor Outreach Services is sponsoring the Survivor’s Support Group from 6 to 7 p.m.
Jan. 12 at the Family Outreach Center, located behind the post library. A Survivor’s Forum is also scheduled from 1 to 2 p.m. Jan. 23 at the Family Outreach Center. Survivor issues will be discussed.

Artists needed
The Fort Gordon Woodworth Consolidated Library, Building 33500, needs the works of local artists to showcase in their library.

Deep Sea exhibit
The Morris Museum of Art in downtown Augusta is featuring sea drawings by William Golding through March 14. The museum is featuring the Response and Memory: The Art of Beverly Buchanan through Jan. 31. The exhibit includes self-portraits and floral dressings. The work is inspired by sharecropper’s cabins in the rural South.

Family movie night
Happy Birthday Elvis’ [Presley] Classic Movie Night is being hosted 7 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Paul Simon Theatre, Fort Discovery in downtown Augusta. This is a familyfriendly event. Theatergoers can come decked out in full Elvis-inspired attire.

Aiken birthday celebration
The town of Aiken, S.C. is celebrating its 175th birthday from 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 9 in downtown Aiken along Newberry Street. “Celebrate Aiken” is a free family event. Children can learn about Aiken history through a lot of hands-on activities such as making candy from potatoes, doing weaving on their own cardboard looms, and playing 1835 games with other youngsters.
Events are being held at the Newberry Hall, the municipal building, Aiken Community Playhouse and the Aiken Center for the Arts on Newberry Street.

MLK Program
The U.S. Army Signal Center of Excellence and Fort Gordon will honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a command program at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 12 at Alexander Hall.
The theme of the program is Remember, Celebrate, Act: a Day On. Not a Day Off. The guest speaker will be Dr. George Bradley, Paine College President.

Youth Horse Camp
Registration is open for the Hilltop Riding Stable Winter Youth Horse Camp. The camp begins Jan. 18 and is open to children ages 7-13.

Superbowl
IET Center Alternate Escapes will host a Superbowl party Feb. 7. The event begins at 4 p.m. and will last until the game is over.
The game will be shown on the center’s projection screen television and broadcast using high definition Bose speakers.
There will be a prediction scoreboard, games, prizes and giveaways during the event.
This event is limited to IET Soldiers only.
There will also be a Superbowl party at the Courtyard. The Sports Bar will be open 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Teresa’s and Cafe San Juan will be open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The game will be shown in the ballroom and at the Sports Bar.

Coaching opportunities
Child Youth and School Services is looking for volunteers to coach team and individual sports programs on Fort Gordon. Activities include basketball, cheerleading, flag football, baseball/t-ball, soccer, weightlifting, bowling, golf, tennis, billards and many more.
