Navy JROTC score a win while Army All-Stars triumph

Greenbrier’s Quarterback, Derrick Brown, threw two touchdown passes to Receiver, Cristian Branyan, in the first half of the game.
In the second half Derrick threw another touchdown pass to Branyan and ran for another.
Greenbrier’s Safety, Jeremy Harden, and Cornerback, Jonathan Evans, intercepted passes during the second half of the game.
Navy JROTC won the game 24 to 7. Members of the local Marine Corps League presented Greenbrier with the winning trophy.
Immediately following the game Fort Gordon’s Army All Star team took on Navy’s All Star team. Most of the Army’s team consisted of Soldiers from the 15th Signal Brigade; Sailors assigned to Navy Information Command Georgia made up the Navy’s All Star team.
The Fort Gordon Army All Star players lift the winning trophy high in the air after defeating the Navy’s All Star team at the post’s 110th Army Navy America’s Game Challenge and Tailgate event held Dec. 12 on Engineer Field. The active duty Army beat Sailors from Navy Information Operations Command Georgia 25-12.
In the audience Soldiers assigned to Company C, 73rd Ordnance Battalion edged Army onto a victory with words of encouragement. Army won 25-12. Members of the Marine Corps League assisted by Jeffrey Foley, U.S. Signal Center of Excellence and Fort Gordon’s commanding general, presented the active duty Flag Football game trophy to Army after their triumph win.
The Navy’s mascot, “Bear,” the goat, spends time in the spotlight.
“The high school game was great and this game [Army All Stars versus Navy All Stars] was great too,” said Foley. “This was a good football game.
“I am very proud of all the men and women who serve,” he added. “Today is just another great example of the type of spirit that it’s going to take to win the war.”
“One team, one fight,” said Foley and Michael Fisher, N A V I O C O M Georgia’s commanding officer.
Navy didn’t seem too disappointed with the outcome of the game since they had just beaten Army during the annual Army officers versus Navy officers game held Dec. 10 in a field behind the Signal Movie Theater. The trophy won there will be displayed at NAVIOCOM Georgia, Building 28423, until the next Army versus Navy officers’ game to be held prior to the 111th annual Army-Navy collegiate game which is scheduled for 1 p.m. Dec. 11, 2010 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
According to Fisher, the Navy men have won first place in all intramural post sports this year, except basketball. They took second place. The Navy women are the 2009 Unit Level Flag Football Champions at Fort Gordon.
Following the Fort Gordon 110th Army Navy America’s games the festivities moved to the Courtyard Pavilion. There grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, assorted beverages were served to everyone at no charge. Specially decorated cakes featuring both military academies from the Cake Factory were also served.
At 2:30 p.m. the 110th annual Army- Navy Collegiate game was televised on two 60 inch Screen television sets at the Courtyard Pavilion for everyone to watch.
During the festivities the local U.S. Marine Corps Reserve collected new, unwrapped toys for their annual Toys for Tots program.
Among the many sponsors for this annual event were Canterbury Trails of Grovetown who brought out the Navy’s mascot, “Bear,” the goat, and the Army’s mule, “Chuck.” Other sponsors for the event were Monkey Joe’s, Logan’s Roadhouse, Courthouse Marriott Hotel and the Navy Federal Credit Union in Augusta.
