Atlanta Marathon

The Atlanta Marathon, held on Thanksgiving Day is the oldest marathon in the Southeast and one of the ten oldest in the country. It is also the only U.S. marathon run on an Olympic course. It kicks off at 7:30 a.m.

Nov. 26 at the Turner Field Stadium (26.2 miles) in downtown Atlanta. The Altanta Half Marathon (13.1 miles) starts at 7 a.m. Nov. 26 in Atlanta.

Children ages 7 - 12 can take part in the Atlanta Track Club’s Kilometer Kids’ Fun Rung (one mile) on Thanksgiving morning. The one mile fun run starts in the Blue Lot at Turner Field and takes the kids across the same finish line as the Atlanta Marathon and Half Marathon. Each child will receive a commemorative finisher’s medal for participating in the fun run.

Recreational Shooting

Pistol and Rifle shooter sharpen their skills from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 21 at Range 14, the Fort Gordon Tactical Advantage Sportsman’s Complex.

The Fort Gordon Outdoor Recreation Facility will be closed Nov. 26 - 30 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Tactical Rifle Shoot

The Fort Gordon Sportsman’s Club and Blankenship Firearms LLC plan to host another Tactical Rifle Shoot in the near future. The shoot will be limited to .223 Remingon and 5.56 mm rifles. There will be two classes: iron sights and optic. Targets will be 50 to 300 yards. Entry fee is normally $25. There will be prizes and giveaways.

Turkey Trot

The 35th Signal Brigade is hosting a Turkey Trot at 10 a.m. Nov. 21 at the River Walk in Downtown Augusta. Everyone is to meet at the Marriott Fountain.This is part of the 35th Signal Brigade’s “Walk to Baghdad and Back” ongoing event.

Ten bonus miles will be offered to those who bring a non-perishable food item which will be donated to the Golden Harvest Food bank.

Prizes are given away for registrants with the most mileage.
