To usher in the season, The Columbia County Ballet will present The New Nutcracker, its twist on the classic Christmas ballet, at the Jabez Sanford Hardin Performing Arts Theater in Columbia County this weekend.

The story of Clara and her magical Nutcracker Prince and their journey into the Land of Sweets accompanied by the familiar music of Tchaikovsky will be presented in performances at 7 p.m. Nov. 20, 5 and 8 p.m. Nov. 21, and 3 p.m. Nov. 22.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors.

Creative bakers have turned the Augusta Museum of History into a winter wonderland with their gingerbread construction.

The museum’s annual Holiday Gingerbread Village will open Nov. 20 and be on display in the rotunda until Nov. 29.

The gingerbread creations feature an historic theme and may be viewed free.

In addition to the gingerbread village, there will be a family fun day at the museum from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 21 with activities related to the village.

Regular admission fees apply to the family fun day activities. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens, $2 for children between the ages of 6 and 18, and children under 5 admitted free.

Begin Christmas shopping at the 23rd Annual Christmas Made in the South Friday through Sunday at the James Brown Arena, 601 Seventh St.

Hundreds of artisans and master craftsmen have brought out their art and traditional crafts for the event.

Admission is $6 for adults and free for children 12 and under.
