Local holiday shows abound
      With Thanksgiving only a few days away, the festivities of the holiday season have arrived. To usher in the season, The Columbia County Ballet will present The New Nutcracker, its twist on the classic Christmas ballet, at the Jabez Sanford Hardin Performing Arts Theater in Columbia County this weekend.

Gift wrapping
      The Fort Gordon Service Club will provide holiday gift wrapping at the Post Exchange from Dec. 1 - 24. Wrapping will be available during the PX’s operating hours. Several days will be set aside for other organizations to wrap. For more information call Joanie Bryant at (706) 863-2931.

Free Christmas trees
      The Christmas Spirit Foundation and FedEx are teaming up to provide about 500 free live evergreen trees for any military ID card holder, active duty, retired, reserve or National Guard member at Fort Gordon. This is part of the annual Trees for Troops program.

Turkey Trot
      The 35th Signal Brigade is hosting a Turkey Trot 10 a.m. Nov. 21 at the River walk in downtown Augusta. This is part of the ongoing “Walk to Baghdad and Back.” Everyone is to meet at the Marriott Hotel fountain. Ten bonus miles will be offered to those who bring a non-perishable food item which will be donated to the Golden Harvest Food Bank.

      The Fort Gordon Chapter of Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association is hosting a “No Host Membership Social,” from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Gordon Club’s Victoria Room. Come meet the local board of directors and find out what the local chapter is planning for 2010.

      The Augusta Jewish Community Center, located at 898 Weinberger Way in Evans, Ga., is hosting an Art Auction and Wine Tasting event Dec. 12.
