Fly the friendly skies at dinner theater

Wes Hennings is having fun with the challenge.
Hennings plays Bernard in the Fort Gordon Dinner Theatre’s upcoming production of Boeing, Boeing. Bernard is a Parisian architect with three fiancées. All are flight attendants, and Bernard plans his life around their flight schedules.
“I usually play more of the loveable sidekick. I’m taking on challenge of a guy who is not necessarily like me,” he said.
The real challenge with this role, however, is making Bernard a loveable character.
“It’s tricky to have this character and not have every woman in the audience hate him immediately,” said Steve Walpert, director.
Walpert hesitates calling Bernard a playboy.
“He’s madly in love with them all,” Walpert said.
Each woman has her own personality and tastes. One is Italian; one is an American; and one is German.
Watching with disdain throughout all of the proceedings is Bernard’s housekeeper, Bertha, played by Victoria Schehl, wife of Fort Gordon’s Garrison Command Sergeant Major, Kevin Schehl.
Schehl didn’t waste any time getting involved in the Fort Gordon theater program.
She’s had roles with the SHAPE Players in Belgium prior to moving to Fort Gordon.
“It’s a big part of my life,” she said.
Boeing Boeing is a French farce that Walpert has given a rating of PG-15 for its adult content.
Boeing Boeing will run for three weekends, Nov. 13, 14, 20 and 21 and Dec. 3, 4 and 5. Dinner begins at 7 p.m. followed by the show at 8 p.m.
