Funds available for science/math teachers

2009-10-30 / News Update

The Augusta-Fort Gordon Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association seeks to promote effective science and mathematics teaching and to enhance the abilities of capable teachers in secondary schools within the Central Savannah River Area. An award of up to $750 is given for teachers to purchase materials for experiments and activities in the classroom. The chapter will give awards to support computer science, mathematics and physical science laboratory efforts and class activities.

Applicants are teachers in the CSRA public or private elementary, middle or high school system. Selections are based on the merit of each teacher’s projects and program. Home school teachers may also apply. All recipients will be required to provide a report back on the implementation of their approved project within 60 days of receiving funds.

Recipients will be notified at the end of November 2009 and will be recognized by the Augusta-Fort Gordon AFCEA Chapter during a ceremony to be announced at a later date. The names of the award recipients will be provided to local papers, the AFCEA national publication, Signal Magazine, and be posted on the AFCEA Augusta Fort Gordon Chapter website.
