Sports Update
The “35th Signal Brigade walks to Baghdad and Back” saga continues with a Memorial Gardens Costume Walk to be held at 10 a.m.
Oct. 24 at 7022 Evans Town Center Blvd. in Evans, Ga.This event will help the 35th Signal Brigade Family members, Family Readiness Groups and Rear Detachment Soldiers walk the distance from Fort Gordon to Baghdad and back (13,236 miles) in support of the unit’s deployment to Iraq.
September’s top mileages in the four categories: adult, youth, group and most miles walked on behalf of a Soldier will be announced at this event. Ten bonus miles will be offered for those who walk in costumes. This will be a stroller-friendly walk, so bring the little ones. Everyone is welcome to walk.

Toys For Tots Run
The Augusta Marines and the Toys for Tots are hosting the Annual Toys For Tots 5K Run/Walk 8 a.m. Nov. 6 at Fort Gordon. Formation runners [minimum of 10 runners] must complete with all members in the formation. There will be prizes awarded to top three male, top three female and top three formation overall winners.Toy donation boxes will be on site. Refreshments will be provided. All proceeds benefit the Augusta Marine Corps Toys for Tots Campaign.

Augusta Canal Bike Ride
The Fort Gordon Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation is hosting two major outings. The Augusta Canal Bike Ride is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 24. Cost is $15 person. Transportation, guide and equipment will be provided. Enjoy a day trip along the Augusta canal towpath, Aqueduct Park and Savannah River Bike Trail.
There is also the Augusta Canal Kayak Trip scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 25. Cost is $15 which includes transportation, guide and equipment.

Women’s Roller Derby
The Soul City Sirens of Augusta play Rogue Rollergirls of Fayetteville, N.C., Oct. 25 at the Red Wing Rollerway Roller Skating Rink, located at 3065 Washington Road in Augusta. Doors open at 5 p.m. Game starts at 6 p.m.
