Retiree appreciation Saturday
Every two years, Fort Gordon honors those who’ve retired from the Army with the Retiree Appreciation Day.
This year’s event will be Oct. 24 with the bulk of activities at Darling Hall. The event features seminars, informational booths as well as health checks for retirees.
Tim Wilson, with the retiree services offices, said past events have provided “a lot of good information” and he expects this one to be no different.
Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. with an opening ceremony at 8 a.m.
From 8:30 a.m. to noon, there will be an array of seminars on topics including combat related special compensation, retired pay, heart health, fitness, safety and falls and sex after 60.
Wilson said the topics featured in the information sessions are often ones which his office receives frequent questions about.
In addition, various organizations will present information booths. Veterans’ organizations such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Military Order of the Purple Heart and the American Legion will be on hand.
Agencies such as Army Community Service, Army and Air Force Exchange Services, the Commissary, Defense Finance and Accounting and the Department of Veterans Affairs will also have information tables.
Also, there will be blood pressure screenings, cataract screenings, EKGs and flu shots. Wilson said a limited number of EKGs would be done so registration was necessary. The day ends with a luncheon at the Gordon Club.
