A fair way to spend a weekend
      If you like carnival rides and funnel cakes, then you will love October and November in the Augusta area as fair season is in full swing. The 87th annual Georgia-Carolina State Fair winds down this weekend at the fairgrounds on Fourth Street in Augusta.

Post Retiree Day
      Fort Gordon will host Retiree Appreciation Day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 24 on post. All military service retirees are invited to attend. The morning session, from 7:15 a.m. registration to noon, will feature information booths and medical tests at Darling Hall, on Chamberlain Avenue at Rice Road. A luncheon will start at 12:30 p.m. at the Gordon Club on 19th Street.

Childbirth Education Classes
      Childbirth Education classes (Lamaze) for new and expectant parents are being offered at the W.G. Watson, M.D. Women’s Center at University Hospital, located at 1350 Walton Way in Augusta.The classes are free. Class size is limited to 14 couples. There are four week classes as well as a weekend class. The next four-week class series are Oct. 26 - Nov.

      Child Enrichment Court Appointed Special Advocates are trained volunteers who are appointed by a judge to advocate for the best interest of victimized children who have been abused and neglected and who have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect.
