One of the many activities available to campers and participants was the rock-climbing wall, set up by the Georgia National Guard.
Jimmie Dyess’ Days was held on Fort Gordon’s Barton Field Oct. 2 through 4. Approximately 1,500 Scouts camped out for the weekend-long event with another approximate 1,500 participating in the main activities Oct. 3.
Fort Gordon personnel and the Family Readiness Group held fund raisers during the event, selling food and drinks to participants. Additionally, various exhibitions were on display by the branches of service as well as local organizations.
There were also several demonstrations including helicopter flights, sky diving, and hot air balloons.
The main day events concluded with a ceremony, awards presentation and a special screening of Scout Camps: the Movie.
All involved agreed the event was very successful, with several of the Scouts already looking forward to participating again next year.

Local Army Recruiters were on hand for the event to provide games and entertainment for the participants.
Other branches of service and community service organizations such as the Air Force ( left) and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office ( right) had booths set up at the event to educate visitors on possible future career opportunities.

Static displays, such as this tank, were also on site for visitors to examine and explore.
At some of the displays, Scouts had the opportunity to examine the tools and ordnance Soldiers work with.
