67th Signal Battalion honors fallen Soldier

A Memorial Service was held Oct. 7 in Alexander Hall on Fort Gordon for a 67th Signal Battalion Soldier who died Sept. 29 in Iraq.
Memorial services were held Oct. 3 in Iraq for Spc. Ross Eugene Vogel III, 27, who was found in his room at Forward Operating Base Delta, near the city of Kut southeast of Baghdad. Cause of death is unknown and is under investigation at this time.
Lt. Col. Peter Tragakis, commander of the 67th, described the mood among his fellow Soldiers in Iraq as “somber.”
Vogel enlisted in the Army in 2001, and has spent much of his career at Fort Gordon. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Co., 67th in 2006, to the 518th TIN in 2007, and again to the 67th in 2008. He deployed with the 67th Signal Bn. in August, his third combat deployment.
Vogel served with the 121st Signal Battalion in Germany, 2002-2005 and deployed to Iraq with that unit.
Vogel has been awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Global War on Terror Medal and a Meritorious Unit Citation.
He was a switch system operator-maintainer, and is from Red Lion, Penn. Burial was held Oct. 9 in his hometown.
