As of Oct. 1 the U.S. Army Signal Network Enterprise Center Fort Gordon is now the official name for what formerly was known as the Directorate of Information Management.

Headquarters Department of Army approved the change with an effective date of Oct. 1. This is an Army wide phased implementation and is a function of the Global Network Enterprise Construct. The first phase, of a two phase approach, will be the transition of IMCOM DOIM’s to 9th Signal Command.

Transforming to the NEC will provide many advantages. It eliminates network capability gaps for units preparing, deploying, and transitioning; dramatically improve our network defense posture by applying globally consistent network security policies and procedures; yield economies and efficiencies while improving effectiveness; and enhance our ability to share information with Joint forces and coalition partners. This transformation is occurring in all Army theaters. Remember what’s behind this change to Network Enterprise Centers — a new alignment of C2 responsibility, an Enterprise approach to the security and management of the network, and improved network capabilities enabling operations through all phases of the fight.

The new naming convention signifies a transformation in how our enterprise networks will operate globally in a cyberspace domain that treats the network and associated Information Technology as a warfighting multiplier. The Chief of Staff of the Army Memo identified 9th Signal Command as the single manager of all Army generating force networks and directed a mission transfer of DOIM activities supporting Common Levels of Service (CLS)/Command, Control, Communications and Computers/Information management (C4IM) with the following services: Communications Systems and Services Support, Information Assurance, and Automation, while leaving all other DOIM activities with the installation Commander.

This action unifies our Command and Control (C2) for the operations and defense of the Global Network Enterprise.
