Walk to Baghdad ...and Back

The “35th Signal Brigade walks to Baghdad and Back” saga continues with a Memorial Gardens Costume Walk to be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 24 at 7022 Evans Town Center Blvd. in Evans, Ga.This event will help the 35th Signal Brigade Family members, Family Readiness Groups and Rear Detachment Soldiers walk the distance from Fort Gordon to Baghdad and back (13,236 miles) in support of the unit’s deployment to Iraq.

September’s top mileages in the four categories: adult, youth, group and most miles walked on behalf of a Soldier will be announced at this event. Ten bonus miles will be offered for those who walk in costumes. This will be a stroller-friendly walk, so bring the little ones. Everyone is welcome to walk.

Toys For Tots Run

The Augusta Marines and the Toys for Tots are hosting the Annual Toys For Tots 5K Run/ Walk 8 a.m. Nov. 6 at Fort Gordon. Formation runners [minimum of 10 runners] must complete with all members in the formation. There will be prizes awarded to top three male, top three female and top three formation overall winners.Toy donation boxes will be on site. Participants will receive a T-shirt, if registered by

Oct. 9. Early registration fee is $15. Refreshments will be provided. All proceeds benefit the Augusta Marine Corps Toys for Tots Campaign.

Golf Championship

The Gordon Lakes Golf Course Club Championship is slated for Oct. 17 and 18. Start time is 8 a.m. Registration fee is $40 for club members and $65 for non-members.

Karate Lessons

Child,Youth and School Services, along with Schools of Knowledge, Inspiration, Exploration and Skills Unlimited Instructional program, offer karate classes every Tuesday and Thursday from 5 to 6 p.m. The class is open to students ages 5 to 18 and the cost is $45 per month.

Go-Cart Track

Come out and enjoy riding a go-cart with your friends at the Go-Cart Track located behind the Courtyard Recreation and Dining Center. The track is open from noon to 8 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 7 p.m. Sundays. The cost is $8 for each 10 minute ride and there are group rates available for parties of eight or more.
