Looking for Inspection Standards?
This is our first “IG Corner” update— during these recurring monthly updates, we will highlight selected regulations, share current trends of our assistance efforts, and use the opportunity to “Teach and Train” – which is one of our four IG key functions. The other functions are to “Assist, Investigate, and Inspect.”
Army Regulation 1-201 governs the planning and conduct of all inspections and provides an example of how to establish an Organizational Inspection Program . OIP is the “umbrella” program that covers Command Inspections, IG Inspections, and Staff Assistance Visits and provides the commander a means to de-conflict internal and external inspections with other required activities.
As our inspectors prepare for the 1st Quarter FY10 inspection (Mitigating the Spread of Com- municable Disease), we thought it may be helpful to share the resources we will use to develop inspection objectives. These regulations are available at

1.TRADOC Regulation 350-6 Annex 3-35 “Preventing Communicable Illnesses”
2.AR 40-5 “Army Medical Department Facilities/Activities
3.DA PAM 40-5 “Preventive Medicine”
During this period of heightened awareness of H1N1, many recommendations on mitigation of communicable diseases are publicized, but keep in mind that during a formal inspection, only official regulations are used as standards. Recommendations may be incorporated into the “Best Business Practice” observations, but cannot become official findings in a report.
IG office hours are 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. No appointment necessary. For more information call (706) 791-4565. SERMC IG Office is located on the twelfth floor of Eisenhower.
