Intel unit cases colors to prepare for deployment

Marla Jones Deputy Public Affairs Officer

The 202nd Military Intelligence Battalion will case the colors Oct. 6 on Barton Field, as they prepare for the unit’s fourth deployment since 2001.

The 202nd has deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, and in 2004, received the Army’s Meritorious Unit Citation for outstanding performance during their 2004 deployment.

The nearly 300 Soldiers will conduct operations to collect human intelligence and signals intelligence for commanders in Afghanistan.

Casing of the colors is a symbolic act of preparing to leave the home station and establish the unit in another location. The flag of the battalion is rolled up and put in a sleeve, and then taken back out when the unit arrives at its destination.
