A Perfect Getaway Rated R ( graphic violence, language, sexual references and some drug use) Sept. 18, 6:30 pm 98 min A Perfect Getaway Rated R ( graphic violence, language, sexual references and some drug use) Sept. 18, 6:30 pm 98 min GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra is one of the most ridiculous movies I have ever seen. It's also one of the most fun. I know that may sound hypocritical from the guy who can't seem to stop bashing the Transformers sequel, but I can't help it. The dialogue is goofy, the plot is nonsensical and the cast can't seem to decide if they're in on the joke or just embarrassed to be there. Personally, I'm leaning towards "in on the joke."

And that's the difference between this and this summer's other toy/cartoon adaptation. The cast and crew of GI Joe don't act like they're above the movie they've made. They're just having fun. Things explode, ninjas fight, and people in ridiculous masks plot ridiculous schemes. No where is the cynical "we just want your money, who cares if it's entertaining, you should just be grateful we made this" attitude prevalent in the Transformers sequel.

Like the first (good) Transformers film, GI Joe is a love letter to those who grew up playing with the toys, watching the cartoons and reading the comic books. There are plenty of references and nods to popular characters and classic storylines, but nothing too mired in continuity for those new to the franchise.
