Walk to Baghdad ...and Back

The "35th Signal Brigade walks to Baghdad and Back" event kicks off 9 a.m. Sept. 19 at Barton Field. It's being supported and co-sponored by the 35th Signal Brigade, Family Readiness Group, Rear Detachment Soldiers, the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center Health and Wellness Center and the Fort Gordon Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation. The 35th Signal Brigade Family members, FRG and Rear Detachment Soldiers will collectively walk the distance from Fort Gordon to Baghdad and back (13,236 miles) in support of the unit's deployment to Iraq. The walk will take place over the duration of the deployment, or 365 days.

There are prizes. The program is mainly for the 35th Signal Brigade Family members, FRGs and Rear Detachment Soldiers, but everyone is welcome to walk.

Karate Lessons

Child,Youth and School Services, along with Schools of Knowledge, Inspiration, Exploration and Skills Unlimited Instructional program, offer karate classes every Tuesday and Thursday from 5 to 6 p.m. The class is open to students ages 5 to 18 and the cost is $45 per month.

Hot Air Balloons

Fort Gordon's Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation is co-hosting the Equestrian American Balloon Festival 2009 in partnership with Randy Russell, the president of Polo America. The event will take place from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 26 and noon to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 27 on Barton Field. The intent of the program is to expose the military and civilian communities to different equestrian and hot air balloon events. The second intent is to support the Fort Gordon Christmas House, which assists Families of deployed service members and Warriors in Transition.The event is free, but donations are welcomed and will be collected to help support the post's Christmas House program.

Go-Cart Track

Come out and enjoy riding a go-cart with your friends at the Go- Cart Track located behind the Courtyard Recreation and Dining Center. The track is open from noon to 8 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 7 p.m. Sundays. The cost is $8 for each 10 minute ride and there are group rates available for parties of eight or more.
