Preserving history
The Augusta Museum of History, located at 560 Reynolds St. in downtown Augusta, is offering a special program from 1 to 2 p.m. every Saturday in September to allow patrons to view how the museum staff collect, catalog, preserve, study, care for and display artifacts and archives for the museum. It's limited to the first 15 participants each session. There's no extra charge; it's free for members or with regular museum admission.
Another interesting program being offered at the museum is "Voices of the Past," which is being shown at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Sept. 19 and 26. A local actor tells how cotton was moved up and down the Savannah River in Georgia and the problems they faced back then.
The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is $4 for adults; seniors, $3; children 6 to 18 years old, $2; and children 5 and under, are admitted free.
