Oliver Hardy was an American comic actor famous as one half of Laurel and Hardy, the classic double act that began in the era of silent films and lasted over 31 years, from 1926 to 1957. He was born Jan. 18, 1892 in Harlem, Ga.

The city of Harlem is hosting the 21st Annual Oliver Hardy Festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 3 on the Main Street in Harlem, Ga. A children's parade kicks off the event at 9 a.m.; opening ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. and at 10 a.m. there will be a parade. There will be live entertainment all day which includes a Civil War Living HIstory event, Laurel and Hardy movie mania, children's rides, games and pony rides. More than 300 craft vendors will be out and there will be a silent auction.

All proceeds benefit the Laurel and Hardy Museum.

Families are asked to leave their pets at home.
