Photo by Bonnie Heater Walter Cox, a retired Richmond Academy history teacher and museum volunteer, talks about the Family room of the 1797 Ezekiel Harris House during a guided tour on Aug. 15. The house, located at 1840 Broad St., in downtown Augusta, is a reminder of the days when tobacco was the primary cash crop. Two unique features of the house are a slanted floored porch on the top level of the house which allows for drainage of rain water and access to the Family's quarters [bedrooms] was by an external staircase. During the Augusta Museum of History's "Dollar Dog Days Summer" program admission rates are reduced to $1; the 1797 Ezekiel Harris House is still $2 because it's a guided tour.
