Sports Update SCRA Spring Challenge The 17th Annual Signal Corps Regimental Association Spring Challenge 2009 is slated for May 16 at Fort Gordon. The Kids One Mile Run/Walk kicks off at 7:30 a.m.; the individual 10K Run/Walk begins at 8 a.m. Starting point is at Building 24402 on 25th and Lane Avenue. The entry fee for the Kids Fun Run/Walk is $10 per child; individuals entering the 10K challenge pay $25. Make checks payable to the Signal Corps Regimental Association. The first 200 registrants receive a T-shirt. Gift certificates will be awarded to the Men's and Women's Overall Winners and the top two finishers in each category receive a trophy. Outdoor Recreation Tactical Advantage Sportsman's Complex, located near Range 14 on post, is hosting a bass tournament from daylight until noon May 17 at the Butler Reservoir on Fort Gordon. Tactical Advantage Sportsman's Complex is open from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays for recreational shooting. The range is open for zeroing firearms, sport shooting, pistol, rifle and black powder shooting. The cost for shooting is $9 per person. Fort Gordon Service Club members shoot for $4, and youth under the age of 16 shoot for $2. Marine Mud Challenge The Marine Mud Challenge kicks off at 9 a.m. May 16 in the field located behind 3rd Avenue and 3rd Avenue-bypass behind the Fort Gordon Dinner Theatre. It's a 4.5 mile off-road course with numerous obstacles, a stream crossing, hills and lots of mud. Last year more than 500 people participated in the first Marine Mud Challenge held on post. The event is open to anyone age 13 and older. Teams will consist of four individuals. All team members must complete all 17 obstacles and cross the finish line together. There are five team categories: male, female, coed, Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps cadets and paramilitary [military, firefighters, police and security]. Cost is $80 per team. The Children's Challenge, a one-mile off-road course, takes place at 8, 8:15 and 8:30 a.m. May 16 in the same location as the Marine Mud Challenge. This event is open to children ages 5-12.
