If a representative from Balfour Beatty Communities hasn't knocked on your door requesting you to fill out a housing survey, expect a visit soon.

"It's an anonymous survey about housing," said Kelly Barchanowicz, Lifeworks coordinator for Balfour Beatty.

Balfour Beatty employees began distributing the surveys on May 1. It's designed to help gauge how Balfour Beatty, the private contractor, is doing at managing housing on post. The single-page survey has questions on the front and back page. Questions range from the quality of the condition of the housing unit to the courteousness of the property managers. Other questions are to find out if the Families understand the policies concerning on-post housing such as the pet policy and housing assignment policy.

While the survey may seem tedious, Barchanowicz said responding is important.

"The suggestions and complaints do receive responses," she said. "One complaint in last year's survey was the number of busy signals residents would get when trying to call in a request for a service or repair. Now when both customer service agents are busy with other customers, an answering service picks up the call."

She also said, another previous concern for residents was getting information on events. Now, she says newsletters and emails go out more frequently.

"Many surveys showed another concern was that residents want newer housing," she added. "That's why renovations to older homes have stepped up in the past few months."

The deadline for the surveys is June 30, and Barchanowicz says there's a bonus for residents who complete them on time. They will be entered in drawings to receive items such as a 32" flat-screen television, gift cards and gift baskets.
