Marine Corps Marathon

The 2009 Marine Corps Marathon and 10K are slated for Oct. 15 at Arlington, Va. This year, Team Fisher House in conjunction with the Chance Phelps Foundation, will honor the memory of Lance Cpl. Chance Phelps by designating their efforts to the building of a Fisher House at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Fisher House supports America's military and their Families in times of need, by providing a "home away from home" while a loved one is undergoing medical treatment.

Phelps was a Marine who was killed during combat operations in Iraq. He is memorialized in the Home Box Office movie "Taking Chance." It is a story based upon the account of another Marine, Lt. Col. Michael Stobl, who escorted Chance's remain home, from Dover Air Force Base, Del., to Dubois, Wyoming.
