Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund accepting applications

DULLES, Va.- The Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund is now accepting applications for scholarships for the 2009-2010 academic year.

The Fund has now awarded $2.5 million to the children of U.S. service members who have been killed or permanently disabled in an operational mission or training accident. Students who may qualify are encouraged to apply early.

"The Freedom Alliance Scholarship provides college tuition to the sons and daughters of American military heroes who have been killed or permanently disabled defending our country," said Tom Kilgannon, Freedom Alliance president. "We are committed to reaching out to as many qualified applicants as possible in order to honor those Families who have made great sacrifices for our nation. It is our hope that Freedom Alliance will be able to show these brave individuals, whose parents have sacrificed so much, that a grateful nation is committed to advancing their educational goals."

To be eligible, an applicant must be the dependent son or daughter of a U.S. Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine or Guardsman who has been killed or permanently disabled (100% Veterans Administration disability rating) as a result of an operational mission or training accident, or who is currently classified as a Prisoner of War or Missing in Action. The applicant must be a high school senior, high school graduate or registered as a full time undergraduate student and under the age of 26.

For information call (800) 475-6620.

The application deadline is July 31, 2009.
