Motorcycle course promotes safety
With an eye on safety, a new motorcycle class will be offered at Fort Gordon.
"It's 7 ½ hours geared to sport bikes," said Russ Blandin, Fort Gordon motorcycle safety program manager.
The Army requires a basic riding course, but the Navy requires its Sailors to have the new sport bike course if they ride sport bikes. Since there are many Navy personnel at Fort Gordon, it was logical to offer the new sport bike class.
The first class was offered Feb. 6 at the motorcycle range on Lane Avenue, and it was full. The next class will be Feb. 19.
Registering for courses is easy at the Army Installation Management Command Registration System website https://airs.lmi.org.
Blandin said the motorcycle courses have resulted in a decrease in motorcycle accidents.
So far this year motorcycle accidents are down; however, car accidents are up.
In addition to the motorcycle classes, there are automobile classes available.
