Special needs Families help
Caring for a child with special needs can be a joy and a challenge. Knowing that others have been there, done that, and survived, is empowering.
Join Dr. Karen Carter, developmental pediatrician with the MCGHealth Children's Medical Center, as she hosts a free "Parents of Fragile Kids Networking Opportunity" from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., Jan. 19 in the first floor conference room of the MCGHealth Children's Medical Center, 1446 Harper St., Augusta, Ga.
"Good support is essential. While friends and Family may provide assistance in many areas, perhaps no one can offer emotional understanding, information and advice as well as people who are in the same boat," Carter said. "Opportunities and events where parents can gather to ask questions; discuss specific disabilities; and share resources and personal stories can be therapeutic."
Carter, who specializes in the medical care of children with unique needs and developmental disabilities, will answer caregivers' questions, and Heather Murray, family support program coordinator, will facilitate networking. Registration is required. For more information or to register, call (706) 721-3967, or visit mcghealth.org.
