The Fort Gordon Chapter of the Ordnance Corps Association hosted their 5th Annual Fall Challenge Veterans Day 10K Run and 5K Run/Walk Nov. 1 on post.

The day held promise with clear skies, but the air temperature was a nippy 68 degree Fahrenheit. Prior to the start of the 10K Run Sgt. 1st Class David Rentz, chief instructor for the Ordnance Electronic Maintenance School at Fort Gordon, requested 5 minute runners to line up first at the starting line. Then he asked the 7 minute runners to fall behind the first line of runners.

"Will the 10 minute runners now go to the starting line," he said. The signal was given; the clock was started and the 10K race began at 8 a.m.

Fifteen minutes later another clock was set and the 5K run/walk began with the runners and walkers heading in the opposite direction of the 10K runners. Each race started and finished at the Hazen Hall, Building 29815, located at 8th Street and Chamberlain Avenue.

The event also included a 5K Run/Walk team competition. All teams consisted of five members, with four team players required to finish the race to remain eligible for the awards. Lowest combined score of the top four runners won.

Forty minutes and 19 seconds into the 10K Run, Quade Klepper, assigned to Company C, 369th Signal Battalion, crossed the finish line first. He was followed behind by Johnne Waddles, who placed second, and David Aquais, who earned third place in the 19 - and under age category.

As the winner of the 19-and under category and the overall male winner of the 10K Run, Klepper took home two trophies and a gift certificate from Road ID.
