Fort Gordon earns community vision award

Brackett WJBF-TV awarded Fort Gordon with its Embracing the Vision award on Nov. 5.

"The Embracing the Vision Award recognized the contributions of area businesses to our economy. How could we do that without coming to Fort Gordon? We're here today to give this award because of the support you give to the local community," said Scot Seabolt, WJBF's general sales manager. The Embracing the Vision Award recognizes area businesses which are good community partners, have a longstanding investment in the community and are positive role models.

"We appreciate the leaders at WJBF for thinking about us and recognizing the positive contributions of our people," said Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Foley, U.S. Army Signal Center and Fort Gordon commanding general.

The monthly award was established two years ago. Previous winners have included Knology, Phoenix Commercial Printing and Airways Express.

Command Sgt. Maj. Thomas Clark, U.S. Army Signal Center and Fort Gordon command sergeant major, thanked the station as well. "They put their boots in harm's way. Thank you so much for recognizing them and their Families. We embrace the vision," he said.

Foley said he was proud to be part of Fort Gordon and serve as the installation's commanding general.

"The guys and gals who serve volunteer to serve. Their Families sacrifice to serve. I'm proud to be a small member of that team," he said.

He also added that he was honored WJBF made the effort to say thank you.

"It makes a difference when a nation expresses its gratefulness - when you say thanks to us for serving. I ask you never to underestimate the value of saying thanks," he said.
