In Aiken, teens are tackling tough issues in The Laramie Project, a play about the beating death of Matthew Shepard, who was attacked, beaten and left for dead in the cold Wyoming fall.
The play follows the events after his death including the trial of the two men who were convicted in the death.
"This is totally taken from interviews," said director Nancy Gamba Hansen. "It does not re-enact the events, and Matthew is not in the play."
The show will be performed at the Washington Center for the Performing Art's Bechtel Experimental Theatre at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. The play deals with adults themes and is not recommended for children under 13. For more information, call (803) 648-1438.
