The second annual Take our Troops Fishing event took place Oct. 26 at Clarks Hill Lake in Appling, Ga. The tournament was hosted by The Freedom to Fish which is an organization that honors service men and women.
All active duty Soldiers were invited to come and see who could catch the largest fish.
Participants came to enjoy the day boating, fishing, and forgetting about the daily grind that sometimes the Army can bring.
"We like to do this just as a thank you. A day that Sol- diers can come and enjoy without a uniform. Where they can come and just have fun fishing," said Shannan Tilson, The Freedom to Fish organization director.
With 70 participants in the tournament, Sgt. 1st Class Horace Estes, 35th Signal Brigade legal noncommissioned officer in charge took home the prize for the largest bass at 3 pounds 2 ounces. Pfc. Victoria Salyers, on her very first fishing experience, took home three out of the five top prizes of the day.
All winners received Visa check cards. Planning is already in the works for next year's event.
