Marine Birthday Ball
      The Marines assigned to Fort Gordon are hosting the 233rd U.S. Marine Corps Birthday Ball Nov. 15 at Julian Smith Casino in Augusta. Cocktails are at 6 p.m. Dinner selections are baked Swiss chicken or marinated roast tenderloin of pork. Everyone is welcome. Tickets are $16 for E-5s and below and $32 for E-6s and above, including civilians.

FEW meeting
      The Garden City Chapter of Federally Employed Women at Fort Gordon is hosting a special program, "Staying Positive," 11:30 a.m. Nov. 13 in the Gordon Club. The program is being presented by Andrea Francois, a FEW member. Everyone is welcome.

Big Kids' accordion band
      Volunteer accordionists are needed to play music for shut-ins at retirement and nursing homes and veteran hospitals. Rehearsals are from 3 to 5 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Mangelly Accordion Dance School, located at 2506 Peach Orchard Road in Augusta. Volunteers will need to read music, have an accordion and a music stand.

Sacred Heart Cultural Center tour
      The Fort Gordon Service Club is hosting a guided tour starting at 10 a.m. Nov. 12 of the Sacred Heart Cultural Center, located at 1301 Greene Street in Augusta. Lunch will follow at the Blue Sky Kitchen, located at 990 Broad Street in downtown Augusta. Service members, their spouses and Department of the Army employees are welcome to join the Fort Gordon Service Club.

Fun Ride
      Registration for the Toys for Tots Fun Ride will be held 8 p.m. Nov. 15 at Augusta Harley Davidson, located at 4200 Belair Frontage Road in Augusta. The local Marine Corps Reserve unit will conduct a flag raising ceremony prior to the ride which begins at 10 a.m. The 160 mile ride will go to Lake Russell Dam and back to Dino's Restaurant on Washington Road.

Covered dish event
      The Old Frontier, a Christian campground and Cowboy Church located in Thomson, Ga., is hosting a covered dish event to honor veterans from 3 to 6 p.m. Nov. 15. They will be giving certificates of appreciation to all veterans in attendance. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to bring a covered dish.

      The Fort Gordon Technology Expo is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Gordon Club. More than 20 exhibitors will demonstrate the latest in information networking, software and hardware, wireless communications, test and measurement, connectivity products, and much more. Everyone is welcome. There's no admission charge.

Veterans Day concert
      The 434th U.S. Army Signal Corps Band will join the Lakeside High School Wind Ensemble for a Veterans Day concert 7 p.m. Nov. 11 at Alexander Hall on Fort Gordon.       Paine College Fort Gordon is conducting pre-registration for Spring I Term 2009. Online and evening classroom courses are being offered. Course offerings in Elementary Farsi, philosophy, religion, business administration, education and sociology are on the schedule.

Holiday shopping bazaar
      The Riverwood Plantation is hosting a pre-holiday shopping bazaar from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 8 at 5123 Riverwood Parkway in Evans, Ga. Covenant Church will also be hosting an old fashioned bake sale and providing refreshments and snacks at a nominal fee. Everyone is welcome.

Adult singles dances
      The Christian Social Organization for Single Adults hosts dances from 7 to 11 p.m. every Saturday night at the Ballroom Dance Center located at 525 Grand Slam Drive in Evans. Cost for members is $6 and guests are $8. Admission includes dance lessons and refreshments.

      Financial experts will visit Fort Gordon to offer free management and much more. The financial education forum is being presented by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, which regulates all securities firms in the United States, in partnership with the Leader College for Information Technology and Fort Gordon's Army Community Services.
