Tribute to the Fallen
Rain, wind gusts and cool temperatures did not deter this young Marine from running his lap for one of his fallen comrades Oct. 24 at Barton Field during the fourth annual Marine Tribute to the Fallen. More than 100 Marines and some Navy service members are running 24 hours per day during the 19-day event to remember the 1,090 Marines and Navy corpsmen who have died in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom since fighting began in March 2003. The Marines welcome anyone who would like to run with them. Individuals are also welcome to walk the route. In all, they will cover more than 3,100 miles. The closing ceremony is slated for 3 p.m. Nov. 7 on Barton Field.
