Pfc. Alicia Lyman Pfc. Alicia Lyman SERVICE MEMBER OF THE QUARTER

The service member of the quarter for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2008 is Pfc. Alicia Lyman who serves as a paralegal for 206th Military Intelligence Battalion.

Lyman is originally from Naples, N.Y. and has been stationed at Fort Gordon since November 2007.

Her hobbies include: soccer, softball, tennis, swimming, running, and downhill alpine racing. Future plans include attending the University of Tampa for Reserve Officer Training Corps in Fall 2009, attending law school, and applying to become a Judge Advocate General Corps officer. When asked why she decided to join the Army, she said she enjoys adventure and being active. "I joined the Army because I wanted to do something outside of the everyday college student's life, something that would benefit the country that I live in, and that my Family and myself could be proud of."

NONCOMMISSIONED OFFICER OF THE QUARTER

The noncommissioned officer of the quarter for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2008 is Staff Sgt. Mark McBurney, assigned to Bravo Company 447th Signal Battalion.

Staff Sgt. Mark McBurney Staff Sgt. Mark McBurney He is an instructor/writer for the Signal Channel Ground and Airborne Radios and provides stateside and overseas Soldiers with the skills they need in order to function and succeed in today's vast computer networking world.

Originally from Decatur, Ga. McBurney has served in the U.S. Army for six years and is truly an inspiring example to those he works with each day. He enjoys working on cars, racing, and drawing. His future goals include obtaining a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, becoming a member of the Audie Murphy Club, and making command sergeant major. McBurney and wife, Nicole, have one daughter, Alyssa.

INSTRUCTOR OF THE QUARTER

The instructor of the quarter for the fourth quarter fiscal year 2008 is Staff Sgt Thelonious Walker, assigned as an instructor/ writer to Bravo Company 447th Signal Battalion.

Walker is responsible for the health, welfare, and supervision of 24 Soldiers daily, and provides technical training to over 3,200 Career Management Field Series Allied, and Reserve component Soldiers each year.

Thelonious Walker He develops, maintains, and updates course material, conducts remedial training, examinations, and evaluations of Soldiers for the awarding of the Military Occupational Specialty 25B10. Walker joined the U.S. Army seven years ago to receive intense training in the Information Technology career field. He is a dedicated Family man and truly personifies what it means to be a superlative Signal Soldier.

Originally from Charlotte, N.C., he has been stationed at Fort Gordon for over two years and never misses a beat. His hobbies include sculpting, painting, repairing computers, and listening to music. Future plans include earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology Management and retiring from the U.S. Army as a senior noncommissioned officer.

Walker and wife, Karlynn, have five children.

CIVILIAN OF THE QUARTER

Ronald Schumpf Ronald Schumpf The civilian of the quarter for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2008 is Ronald Schumpf, who serves as the Division Chief of Switching, Transmission, and Microwave Systems for the 551st Signal Battalion and 15th Regimental Signal Brigade. He plans, directs, and controls the framework for multiple courses of instruction leading to the award of a Military Occupational Specialty to initial entry and advanced trainees. Schumpf proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, which prompted his decision to embark on a career in civil service that began 37 years ago.

He immediately went from being an enlisted Soldier to an electronics instructor at Fort Monmouth, N.J. From Fort Monmouth, he was stationed at Fort Gordon where he has worked for 34 consecutive years. Schumpf redefines what it means to be an asset and is always busy providing excellent services and ensuring necessary tools are provided to perform and successfully complete the mission.

To this day, training the best Signal Soldier in the world remains his passion and top priority. His hobbies include gardening, computing, raising two Weimaraners and relaxing on the beach. He is a licensed pilot and plans on pursuing flying again in the future.

Schumpf and wife Helen have two daughters, Kirsten and Melissa, and plan on retiring in Florida.
